DANCE INCUBATOR SHARING
Thursday, November 13, 7:30pm / PWYC
TICKETS
Dance Incubator Sharing is an evening for the contemporary dance community to come together. A small soiree featuring work-in-development sharings from the 2025 Dance Incubator artists: Veronique Emmett & Dyana Sonik-Henderson, a brief Q+A with both of them and mentor Andrew Barrett, and followed by an informal gathering to connect over tea and other non-alcoholic beverages. Let’s nestle up as winter comes!

Statment:

BLOODSUCKER: after feeling emotionally drained and after one too many bites from a mosquito Dyana developed interest in learning more about her bloodsucking foe. Dyana is looking to uncover why this theme 'sucked' her in and learning more about those who take more than they give.

About:
Dyana's past three main projects have ranged from a work that explored neurodiverse learning styles to a work that looked at chronic pain and another that drew inspiration from a rather unpleasant 8 hour 'On Hold' phone call.  Dyana's works usually start with a question or a curiosity and through the creative process the answers either present themselves or it leads to new questions. Her work usually unpacks a universal truth and she has been praised for her intricate and exceptional choreography and multi-layered meanings in her work.

Véronique Emmett (she/her)

Statement: I am beginning research on a dance piece inspired by tide pools, exploring how movement, set, and installation might create an immersive environment. I aim to investigate interactive elements and ways that art can communicate science, ecology, and our relationship with natural spaces.

About:
Véronique Emmett is a dance artist and organic farmer based on unceded Lekwungen Territory. A graduate of The School of Contemporary Dancers and Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, her process explores connections between environment, community, and self, weaving movement with ecological curiosity and embodied research.

Andrew Barrett (he/him)

Statement:

I founded the Dance Incubator to fill a hole within the local performance ecology. I wanted to support contemporary dance artists by offering them an individually crafted program to support what they needed most at that moment. It's been a joy to support artists to not only create with more abandon, but step into the technical or producing elements of creating work easier.

About:
Andrew (he/him) is a queer multidisciplinary performing artist based on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen-Speaking Peoples/Victoria, BC. He is a creator, choreographer, performer, director, educator, administrator, and founding Artistic Producer of Impulse Theatre.
The Dance Incubator is a curated mentorship program that supports contemporary dance artists in any or all of the facets related to making work: studio space, technical needs, production, not-for-profit management, administration and mentorship.
