THE DANCE INCUBATOR
Dance Incubator: Noble Riot Dance Theatre
SUNDAY November 7
Metro Studio Theatre, 1411 Quadra St
The Dance Incubator is a residency program that supports contemporary dance projects, providing the artists with studio space and technical support to explore their movement practice. This year the program features Noble Riot Dance Theatre. In the Dance Incubator, Kayla Henry and Finley Rose from Noble Riot Dance Theatre will explore themes of eco-destruction viewed through the natural and human-made worlds. The interdisciplinary duet is a tapestry of contemporary dance and sonic mediums of violin, loop pedal, and voice, all woven into costumes and an interactive set.
Presented with the support of Intrepid Theatre.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Kayla Henry (she/her) is a mother, performer, creator, and movement educator based on the
traditional and unceded territory of the Lekwungen People, now known as the Songhees
and Esquimalt Nations.
Kayla is the Founder and Artistic Director of Noble Riot Dance Theatre (2021). Independently, Kayla has been creating solo work since 2013 with performances in Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, and Winnipeg. Her creations have so far been supported by the CRD Arts & Culture, Good Women Dance Collective, Impulse Theatre, Springboard Performance, Theatre Junction, and Dance Victoria. Nationally, Kayla has worked with many renowned companies and choreographers, and internationally, she has worked in Europe and USA.
Finley Rose (they/them) is a musician and performing artist from Vancouver Island, BC. Finley grew up among the arbutus trees, echoing their song. Their music draws on the darkness and light of human experience; a soaring vocal line over a resonant violin phrase, a heartfelt song, spun from the piano. Influenced by genres such as traditional folk, alternative rock and neo-classical music, elements of these styles support the intricate soundscapes they create.
