Impulse Theatre Safe(r) Spaces Policy

Impulse Theatre is committed to providing a healthy, respectful, inclusive, harassment-free space for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of any form. This policy outlines the approach and steps to be taken by Impulse Theatre in the event of harassment, discrimination, violence, or bullying in Impulse spaces.
Impulse is dedicated to building and promoting a climate of understanding and mutual respect where all individuals are equal in dignity and rights. We want to encourage inclusion, reduce opportunities for harm, and support victims, survivors, and allies who choose to report an incident. Safe(r) spaces require accountability, commitment, and support from everyone in our community.
This policy applies to all Impulse Theatre spaces, including all in person and online events, our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, and communication via email, in person or video conference.
This policy covers Impulse Theatre staff and contractors, volunteers, artists, patrons, artists and other third party participants, independent contractors, and members of the Board of Directors.

Impulse Theatre strives to create a safer space that allows participants of any event or activity:
- To feel safe, supported, and respected
- To be able to represent your full self regardless of age, gender, gender presentation, sex, sexuality, race, national or ethnic origin, religion, or disability without fear of judgment, prejudice, or violence.
- To be able to participate in an environment free of harassment, discrimination, sexual solicitation, or bullying
- To feel safe in reporting any incidents that occur to management without fear of punishment, retaliation, or social and/or workplace ramifications
- To have any incidents that are reported be dealt with in a timely, consistent, and confidential manner
- To report any incidents to Artistic Producer and/or the board of directors
Impulse Theatre is committed to a comprehensive strategy to address harassment and discrimination, including:
- providing employees and board of directors with training and education on creating safe and inclusive spaces
- ensuring the policy is readily available to all participants and that they are aware of the opportunities available to make complaint(s) known
- regularly monitoring organizational systems and this policy to ensure they are up to date
- providing an effective and fair complaints procedure
- promoting appropriate standards of conduct and a culture of inclusivity at all times.
Impulse Theatre values the safety of its spaces and is committed to providing an environment supportive of human dignity and respect.
- When a complaint is received, acknowledgement will come within 14 calendar days.
- The board of directors will meet to discuss the complaint and how to move forward
- Appropriate action, up to and including termination and/or exclusion from future Impulse Theatre events, will be decided upon and the person(s) filing the complaint will be notified
- Note: Impulse Theatre has one almost full-time, year round employee and has limited scope as an organization. Impulse Theatre commits to processing complaints to the best of its ability with the resources available.
