We have 1 spot available as part of the 2025 Performance Lab Program this year. The Performance Lab program prioritizes interdisciplinary, contemporary dance, and physical or non-traditional theatre practices.

The program is intended to support artists that have started to explore a creation practice. While not necessarily project specific, their artistic work is at the centre of the conversation. Projects, paired with the mentorship, can be an important tool for development. Artists will be provided one-on-one mentorship, studio space, honorarium, and access to Peek Fest workshops.

The program is only available to in-person artists based on Southern Vancouver Island.

Adjudication is based heavily on synergy with mentor, and how the mentorship will support the applicant's ongoing process. Projects will be selected by Peek Fest staff and the Mentor.

Impulse Provides:
  • In-person: Up to 25 hours of dedicated studio time between November 3 and 21, 2025
  • 10 hours (6 in October, 4 in November) of mentorship with the Wonderheads
  • $1000 honorarium
  • A showcase opportunity with other fesival artists on November 22, 2026
  • Access to all specialized Peek Fest workshops

This year, performance lab artist(s) will receive one-on-one mentorship from the Wonderheads.

The Wonderheads are a physical theatre company specializing in mask performance, puppetry, and visual storytelling. Andrew and Kate bring insight on creation of physical theatre (mask, puppetry, etc), stop motion animation, mask and puppet building, as well as touring and production.
The program will be divided into components:

1) Mentorship
The mentorship will include one-on-one sessions/meetings with participants through October, and then up-to 4 hours of mentorship in November. Participants will also be given the opportunity to attend rehearsals of the Wonderheads' production of A WONDERHEADS Christmas Carol that month.
The nature and scope of the mentorship is open to be negotiated/navigated by the artist(s) and program mentor.

2) Studio Space
The participants will be provided up-to 25 hours of studio space during Peek Fest (November 3 to 21) and opportunity to participate in a festival artist sharing on Saturday, November 22. Impulse staff will be available to support the artists.

Important Dates:
  • July 3 - Application Deadline
  • July 22 - Artist Notification Date
  • October 1 to November 21 - Performance Lab Program
  • November 22 - Private Showcase
